Signing up for Pangeo

Hi! I have some folks wanting to sign up for Pangeo, but haven’t heard back in a while since filling up this Google Form. Has signing up migrated to another link? Would appreciate any info, thanks!

With the decommision of aws-uswest2.pangeo.io that form and the associated documentation at Pangeo Cloud — Pangeo documentation needs to revision.

Access to the GCP Pangeo Cloud instance is made available through the GitHub Team @pangeo-data/us-central1-b-gcp . I don’t know who historically received that Google Form application (presumably some superset of rabernat, jhamman, scottyhq, TomAugspurger) but my understanding one of the owners of that @pangeo-data GitHub org is needed for to add someone.

Unless someone responds otherwise, I’ll bring Pangeo Cloud access up at the Pangeo Community Meeting tomrrow.

Relatedly, the remaining GCP Pangeo Cloud deployment is scheduled to go to the 2023. Working as part of 2i2c I have been trying to build capacity of continuing the support for Pangeo-like cloud (ideally on GCP, AWS, and other cloud provider infrastructurer as well). The next best opportunity that I am aware of is Pathways to Enable Open-Source Ecosystems (POSE) | NSF - National Science Foundation and I am hoping a proposal through that call will continue the Pangeo Cloud infrastructure.

At least when we set up the original Hubs there was no easy way to automate adding people who want to sign up to a GitHub Team. So we hacked together a Google Form/Sheet, and then had a GitHub Action that would read from the sheet and add people to the team, I suspect nobody has been watching it to make sure it is still working Actions · pangeo-data/pangeo-cloud-federation · GitHub .

@jmunroe I gave you access to the google drive folder containing the google sheet.

@jdldeauna it looks like you are a team member of:
https://github.com/orgs/pangeo-data/teams/us-central1-b-gcp

So you should be able to log into https://us-central1-b.gcp.pangeo.io/

Thank you so much for the replies! Given the timeline of the support for Pangeo Cloud, would it still be advisable for new folks to sign up for it?

Also, would the datasets accessible through Pangeo (e.g., “https://storage.googleapis.com/cmip6/pangeo-cmip6.json”) still be supported, even if Pangeo Cloud runs out of support (hopefully not!)?

The Pangeo CMIP6 data is hosted as a public dataset on GCS and not dependent on the above funding. So that will still be available to the public for the foreseeable future.

I am unsure about other datasets like the ones in the pangeo catalog. These are not fully public (requester pays), but I am not sure if these are tied to the funding for the pangeo cloud hubs. If anyone has clarification on that, that would be very useful to know.

Awesome, thanks Julius!

I’m sorry about my queries, I understand that Pangeo Cloud has always had a limited time frame. We have a local HPC that we are working with. Thank you for your patience!

Hi! I’m new to PanGeo and submitted the Google Form, but until now I have not received the Github invitation. I notice that the Google Action (you mentioned above) seems to stop running for 3 weeks?

correct, the adding members workflow hadn’t been run in a while. I just re-enabled it so you should have access now

Thanks a lot! I’m already in.

Hello, I am also waiting to receive the Github invitation after submitting the Pangeo Cloud Application Google Form. Is there some further action I can take? Thank you!

It’s been approved now, thank you!
