I’m pleased to invite those who are interested to join a meeting in Paris (or virtual) that will take place on the 12th of November. The idea is to be able to meet European resident involved in this community, but also to confront Pangeo ecosystem to CNES (French space agency) needs. It will this be splitted in at least two sessions, one general session about Pangeo, and one more focused on CNES work and potential collaboration with the community.
I’m still working on accomodations, but I’ve no doubt I’ll find a nice place, and food will be offered. This meeting will be limited to about 30 people in place, so please fill this Google document! You’ll also find a very draft agenda in it, do not hesitate to make suggestions!
Hi @geynard, thanks for organizing this! I will participate for sure, but I still do not know if physically or remotely. I will let you know next week.
Hi everyone, we’ve refined the agenda with @annefou and @tinaok. Two important things to share:
We are wondering if some people would be interested in a social event in Paris on monday night, please tell us so!
We have a time slot dedicated to lightning talks, if you have something, typically about some Pangeo enabled library or platform, that you’d like to share!
Please again fill in the Google sheet, for your participation but also the two question above!
A few suggestions of lightning talks: @Basile_Goussard would you like to present your work and how you use the Pangeo stack? @keewis@benbovy, would you like to present something around Xarray? @clausmichele maybe a 5 minute into OpenEO? @remi-braun what about a EOReader show? @gunbra32 XCube demo? @jacobtomlinson, something arount Rapids? Or Dask in the Cloud? Or dask-hpc refactor? Or all of that?
@rabernat, would you be available at some point for a 30minutes talks (or less, or more), Pangeo 2.0, or maybe your vision of the now and the next? When would be the best time?
@geynard yes sure. I’m happy to give a short update on the state of Xarray’s indexes and what kind of problems it already addresses or may address in the near future (e.g., vector data cubes, coordinate transforms, etc.), which seems relevant regarding some topics in the meeting’s agenda. I added it in the google document.
I think either @keewis, @allixender or I will be happy to talk a bit about (x)DGGS.
I’m in the area and keen to meet folks, get more familiar with what is happening at CNES, and join the discussions! Happy to give a lightning talk & added some ideas to the google doc.
@clausmichele please add your talk to the google doc! Location will be Paris center, but unfortunately CNES headquarters are being restored, so I don’t have the precise location for now, I’ll keep you posted as soon as I have it!
@remi-braun yes please, 5’ is perfect, could you add it to the doc?
@scottyhq that’s just great! Thanks for your proposal which is very welcomed.
@rabernat if you could just also confirm that you want to give some keynote of overview of your idea of Pangeo future, and also the best time of the day for you… Is 14pm CET allright?
Thanks for organizing this @geynard ! I have registered on the google form. If people are interested I could present xarray-regrid in a lightning talk.
Thanks for organizing @geynard ! If it is of any interest to the community we can share our experience in Murmuration using part of the Pangeo stack on climate data, focusing on the opportunities & the challenges we faced so far.
