Pointers to new starter environment yml

My python environment has reached an evolutionary dead end with updates failing or breaking things. Any suggestions for a pangeo-adjacent, yml file or new environment procedure? I use conda but what is the mamba that I hear of?

Hi Mike!

We maintain the “official” Pangeo environment here:

pangeo-data/pangeo-docker-images/blob/master/pangeo-notebook/environment.yml

You should definitely use mamba. It’s a drop-in replacement for conda that is much faster.

That’s great. I have imagined a pangeo distribution that curates packages and versions like Fedora/debian/etc do with linux. I am old enough to remember the first Slackware distributions.
