We are Mondosway OÜ delivering ForestSentinel — an AI-powered forest
disturbance detection platform under EU grant G-01-2026 with the
European Forest Institute (EFI).

DURATION: 10 months (June 2026 – March 2027)
COMMITMENT: 0.4 FTE (~16 hours/week)
BUDGET: €1,900/month net (€2,400 gross — employer taxes via EOR)
LOCATION: Fully remote — bi-weekly calls with project manager

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Provide scientific validation for AI disturbance detection outputs —
    benchmark against ICP Forests ground truth across 10+ European sites
  • Define disturbance classification schema (drought stress, bark beetle
    mortality, wind damage) for 30m FMEO output
  • Supply and interpret 3PG model outputs and NFI data used as ground-truth
    supervision for model fine-tuning
  • Validate that ForestChat Climate-Smart Forestry recommendations align
    with EU Forest Strategy 2030
  • Facilitate introductions to FORWARDS project network forest managers
    for Month 9 practitioner validation
  • Co-author peer-reviewed journal paper (lead Methods section)

KEY DELIVERABLES:

  • Month 4: Disturbance classification schema + ground truth sourcing plan
  • Month 5: FMEO v1.0 scientific validation report at 3 EU sites (INTERIM)
  • Month 9: Expanded validation report — 10 EU sites across biomes
  • Month 9: Practitioner feedback report from 3+ forest manager users
  • Month 10: Journal paper methods contribution

REQUIRED BACKGROUND:

  • Forest ecology or forest science (MSc minimum, PhD preferred)
  • Working knowledge of ICP Forests monitoring network and data structures
  • Familiarity with NFI (National Forest Inventory) datasets
  • Knowledge of Climate-Smart Forestry frameworks and EU Forest Strategy 2030
  • English-language scientific writing

NICE TO HAVE:

  • 3PG model experience
  • ICOS network familiarity
  • Connection to FORWARDS consortium partner institutions
  • Experience with remote sensing validation for forest applications
