– Facilitators needed! –
For the 2025 Pythia Hackathon, we’re shifting away from “breakout leaders” and instead striving to support every breakout group of scientific programmers with a Facilitator with experience in git and GitHub.
– FUNDING DEADLINE MONDAY JUNE 30 – Interest form HERE –
Separate from event registration, please fill out this brief form if you are interested in participating as a Facilitator. If your participation would require travel funding, indicate this in the form BY MONDAY JUNE 30 for priority consideration. We also have limited support for virtual facilitation and virtual breakout groups. If you are available to facilitate virtually, please indicate so in the form above.
– I’ve already registered, what do I do? –
If you registered for the 2025 Hackathon and indicated your interest to “Lead a Breakout Group”, please respond to the form above. We will contact you directly with more information!
– Supporting our facilitators –
We have limited funds dedicated to support in-person participation for Facilitators. Facilitators will also be credited in published post-Hackathon event proceedings and as Contributors and Authors for the Cookbooks they support throughout the event.
– Expectations –
A Facilitator will have enough experience in working with git and GitHub to support their breakout group by demonstrating effective development practices and addressing conflicts and issues with contributing via git. Before the Hackathon, Facilitators will also be trained in the GitHub templating and infrastructure that enables Pythia Cookbooks, such that breakout groups will be able to create new Cookbooks, enhance existing Cookbooks, and successfully build and publish their Cookbooks via MyST and GitHub Actions. Nearly all of this is automated!
The Facilitator will also serve to identify blocks and slowdowns for groups, and connect the group to other Facilitators and Organizers for support. Optionally, the Facilitator is welcome to contribute to Cookbook content, ideate and “pitch” Cookbook ideas, or contribute to Pythia in other interesting technical ways throughout the event!
There is more information in the Interest Form linked above, including details about optional pre-event training for facilitators and registrants. This interest form will remain open throughout event registration.
