Abstract:
The inaugural Zarr Summit convened in Rome, Italy from October 13-17, 2025, bringing together developers, implementers, and adopters from across the global scientific computing community. The summit united 23 core contributors for three developer-focused days that produced demonstrable prototypes for long-requested features including variable (rectilinear) chunk grids, advances in sharding performance, codec standardization, and cross-language implementation parity, followed by two adopter days with 60+ participants from earth observation, climate science, neuroscience, microscopy, and machine learning domains. This presentation will highlight specific technical advances, showcase community success stories, and provide entry-points for contributing to the Zarr ecosystem.
