NASA seeks panelists: Transformation to Open Science

Forwarding an announcement I received that might be of interest to this community.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), is seeking persons to serve on a community panel for NASA’s Transform to Open Science (TOPS) and Year of Open Science initiatives. TOPS is a program of the Open-Source Science Initiative (OSSI) within the Science Mission Directorate (SMD). To spark change and inspire open science engagement, OSSI has created the TOPS mission and declared 2023 as the Year of Open Science. Community panel members shall provide input on TOPS mission, goals, partnerships, and activities.

The community panel participation process is completed as outlined below:

The TOPS Community Panel will be a group of approximately 15 open science and open-source community leaders. The panel will provide constructive feedback on TOPS mission, plans, and recent activities. This group will serve as a representative of their community in these conversations; and speak to their experience with open science; lessons learned in conducting open science; and provide input on future steps to be taken by TOPS, TOPS partners, and the greater NASA science community. Travel reimbursement to any in-person panel events will be provided. Additionally, non-civil servant panelists will receive a $1200 per day honorarium.

We expect to hold two 1.5-day panel events. The first session (virtual) will be held during the week of May 16, 2022. The second session will be held in ~October 2022.

If you are interested in participating in the panel, please respond as soon as possible by filing out the web form at Transform to Open Science (TOPS) Community Panel | Science Mission Directorate. Responses should include a concise listing of your area(s) of open science expertise, a link to your current CV or research page, and an example (via text or URL) of one of your successful practices of open science. This could include, but is not limited to, knowledge and/or experience with open-source software, code sharing practices, and open-source repositories and tools, data sharing, data repositories, curation and/or creation of open data, open-access publishing, pre-publication, peer review, academic review and/or tenure processes, participation or leadership inopen science communities, and/or participation or leadership in diverse communities dedicated to advancing diversity in STEM or diversity in academia.

Please note, your willingness to participate in this panel does not guarantee your selection. Panelists will be selected based on their experience and interest in open science practices, as listed in the previous paragraph. You will only be contacted if you are selected to participate. The request for panelists will close on April 8, 2022.
