Hypergraph Interchange Format meets Pangeo

Hello everyone! My name is Martín and I’m a coauthor of the Hypergraph Interchange Format. We are a team of scientists and maintainers of open-source projects, and created a standard to share higher-order datasets. We created the HIF repository and also published a manuscript to arXiv:2507.11520.

I’m reaching out as we plan v2, where we will introduce a Temporal Hypergraph specification and performance improvements. The performance requirements are leading us to reconsider JSON as the main interchange format and come up with alternatives. This is how I learned about Pangeo

Nice to meet you and hoping to collaborate.

:waving_hand: Welcome Martin! How can we help you?

Hi Ryan, nice to meet you!

I’m working so that I can share options with the participating HIF projects and I’m considering primarily Parquet, Zarr and HDF5.

I think the HIF participants are very academic types, much like Pangeo, and that is a really positive non-technical driver for Zarr. We’re also very aligned in Open Science goals and mindset, so I was hoping to introduce myself and the project before firing any questions. I’m watching your videos and other Pangeo videos on YouTube and still got a lot to learn.

Thanks for reaching out!
