Call for abstracts – Pangeo & DGGS session at EGU26 (PICO format)

Hello everyone,

Are you interested in sharing your Pangeo-related work at the EGU General Assembly 2026 in Vienna(3–8 May 2026)?

We’re convening the ESSI session:

ESSI4.4 – Pangeo and DGGS: Enabling FAIR, Open, and Reusable Workflows for Transdisciplinary Earth Science

What the session is about

This session focuses on how Pangeo’s open-source ecosystem and Discrete Global Grid Systems (DGGS) enable FAIR, scalable, and reusable workflows across Earth, ocean, climate, and environmental sciences.

This year the session will be held in PICO format.

A PICO combines the advantages of both oral and poster presentations:

  • Each author gives a very short (~2-minute) oral pitch to the full audience.

  • Afterwards, there is an interactive discussion phase at touch screens, where attendees can explore your full presentation, ask questions, and discuss in detail.

It’s a very friendly, interactive format that works especially well for showing workflows, demos, and notebooks.

How to submit

From the session page, click on “Submit your abstract” and follow the EGU instructions.

Abstract submission deadline (EGU-wide):

:backhand_index_pointing_right: Thursday, 15 January 2026, 13:00 CET

We’re looking forward to showcasing the breadth of Pangeo and DGGS work and to building new collaborations across communities.

Thank you, and we hope to see you in Vienna!
