I read once that you can be the ripest, juciest, sweetest peach in the world but there’s always a person who simply does not like peaches. ![]()
There are several algorithms that can compress (CO)GeoTIFFs and it is relatively straightforward to assess each of them from a technical perspective – there are tons of reports and papers out there. The one thing I’m struggling to figure out, however, is what people actually prefer working with, so I created this poll for the Pangeo community.
To keep things simple, I did not include configuration levels but please feel free to share your preference as an answer. ![]()
I’ve included lossy compressions such as JPEG out of sheer curiosity.
Which is the COG compression algorithm you prefer to work with?
- ZSTD
- LZW
- DEFLATE
- LZMA
- LERC
- LERC_DEFLATE
- LERC_ZSTD
- JXL
- JPEG
- WEBP
- RAW (I don’t like compressed GeoTIFFs)
