I read once that you can be the ripest, juciest, sweetest peach in the world but there’s always a person who simply does not like peaches.
There are several algorithms that can compress (CO)GeoTIFFs and it is relatively straightforward to assess each of them from a technical perspective – there are tons of reports and papers out there. The one thing I’m struggling to figure out, however, is what people actually prefer working with, so I created this poll for the Pangeo community.
To keep things simple, I did not include configuration levels but please feel free to share your preference as an answer.
I’ve included lossy compressions such as JPEG out of sheer curiosity.
Which is the COG compression algorithm you prefer to work with?
- ZSTD
- LZW
- DEFLATE
- LZMA
- LERC
- LERC_DEFLATE
- LERC_ZSTD
- JXL
- JPEG
- WEBP
- RAW (I don’t like compressed GeoTIFFs)
