Dear PANGEO community,

ESA is planning to distribute Sentinel data in Zarr format in the future and wants to give users a chance to try it out first.

Here’s how you can participate:

Community Notebook Competition
Write your own Zarr data workflow with examples from the EOPF 101 online book and data from the EOPF Zarr Sample Service, then submit it to the community notebook competition (deadline on 15 March 2026). Join our Slack for extra support!

This is great timing! We just open-sourced climval, a Python validation library with Zarr support. Planning to submit a notebook using climval against the EOPF sample data. Looking forward to it. Cheers!

We will include the winning notebooks in the EOPF 101 online book. Contributors will be listed as co-authors of a paper about EOPF 101 as well.

In addition, there are prizes to be won… including exclusive Sentinel-2 Lego sets from ESA and a pool of 10 000€ of upskilling vouchers from thriveGEO.
