# Post-AGU Pangeo Hack-day / Working Meeting (December 14, 2024 in Washington, DC)

## 🎉 Please join us for a Pangeo working meeting / hackathon on December 14 in Washington, DC 🎉

I’m excited to announce a Pangeo working meeting following the 2024 AGU Fall Meeting in Washington, DC. This event serves to bring together members of the Pangeo community to solve problems related to scientific research and programming.

**When** : Saturday, December 14, 2024  
**Time** : 9 AM - 4:30 PM ET  
**Where to register** : [Pangeo Post-AGU Hack-day / Working Meeting Luma registration  
 ](https://lu.ma/8mj6f3qn) **Registration deadline** : October 31, 2024  
**Where** : Development Seed offices in Washington DC, which is right across from the street from the convention center  
**Registration cost** : No registration fee  
**Logistics** : Participants are expected to provide their own transportation to and from the event. Lunch will be provided by Earthmover!

**Goals** :

- Gather members of the Pangeo community to solve problems related to scientific research and programming
- Make progress on moving forward from the “What’s next for Pangeo” discussions
- Support the development of domain-specific geoscience packages

9:00 - 9:15 - Welcome and logistics  
9:15 - 9:30 - Introduction to projects  
Break out groups part 1  
9:30 - 12:00 - Group work (individual break times)

Can you elaborate on this in relation to the “Group work” sessions? Will the sessions be open for hack/sprint type activities proposed by community members, or will the projects be pre-determined? I’ve chatted with a few OSS communities I’m in (e.g. [earthaccess](https://github.com/nsidc/earthaccess/discussions/775), icepyx/hackweek) about scheduling some sprint/hack time before or after AGU and we’re wondering if this would be a forum we could make a pitch to or if we should organize our own event.

The google form linked above has a section for proposing a topic for a breakout group.

I say if it’s related to pangeo at all (e.g. uses xarray etc. and is geosciences) then the more the merrier!

Excited to announce that we’ll be hosting the post-AGU Pangeo meeting at the Development Seed offices in Washington DC, which is right across from the street from the convention center.

Thanks to EarthMover for providing lunch for the event 🎉 Both of these in-kind contributions have been approved by the steering council following Pangeo’s sponsorship policies.

We’ve made a new registration page to make it easier to send information to attendees - please register [on this luma page](https://lu.ma/8mj6f3qn) 🚀 🌎 I’ll add information for existing registrants later this week

~~Not sure how the big message button disappeared for you.~~ Actually, I think that’s related to you having signed up very recently (basically, the ~~spam protection~~ [trust levels](https://blog.discourse.org/2018/06/understanding-discourse-trust-levels/) of discourse). Once you interact a bit more (can even be passive, I think), you should be able to contact other people.
