Hi,
I am studying mesoscale eddies.
I found two Copernicus Marine Level-4 products:
1.Global Ocean Gridded L4 Sea Surface Heights and Derived Variables Reprocessed – Copernicus Climate Change Service, with a spatial resolution of 0.25° × 0.25°.
2.Global Ocean Gridded L4 Sea Surface Heights and Derived Variables Reprocessed (1993–ongoing), with a spatial resolution of 0.125° × 0.125°.
What is the main scientific difference between these two products, and which one would you recommend for detecting and tracking mesoscale eddies in a relatively narrow basin such as the Red Sea?
Also, if I want to compare my results with a previous study that used weekly AVISO data at a spatial resolution of 0.25°, would it be better to use the 0.25° product to ensure a consistent comparison?

The main difference is the processing chain. The 0.25° product is the C3S reprocessing and the 0.125° one is the CMEMS DUACS reprocessing, theyre both gridded altimetry L4 but not the same product. For mesoscale eddies in a narrow basin like the Red Sea id go with the 0.125° product, the eddy scales there are small enough that 0.25° is marginal. And yes, if youre comparing against a study that used weekly AVISO at 0.25°, use the 0.25° product for that comparison so youre comparing like with like.
